This past weekend was spent doing all things Halloweenie. If you follow me on instagram (username: thedailyjulie), you’ve probably seen most of these pictures, but I figured I’d give ‘em a go here since I know some of you (hi, Gram! hi, Mom!) aren’t on Instagram.
On Friday night, my friend Amanda hosted her annual pumpkin carving extravaganza. Amanda will be living in California this time last next year. wah.
Can you guess which pumpkin was mine?
It was way harder than it looks. I’m glad I went with the design I went with, but my hand was so sore when I was done. The neighborhood kids better like it, dammit.
I went over to my parents house this weekend, and they really went all out with their Halloween decor this year. They left no spot in the front yard unturned.
On Sunday, our street had it’s annual block party. Since it was so close to Halloween this year, I made some eyeballs.
Basically, they are peanut butter balls (peanut butter and powdered sugar) and then instead of dipping them in regular chocolate, I dipped them in white chocolate. Before the chocolate cooled, I made bloodshot squiggles with red food coloring and a toothpick. Then, I plopped on a gummy lifesaver with a chocolate chip in the middle to complete the effect. There weren’t any left at the end of the party which is always a good sign, and the kids especially LOVED them.
I also became besties with leggings. I mean, leggings and I have always been on good terms but with this burgeoning belly, I really ought to buy some stock in lulu lemon. (complete outfit details: leggings: Lulu Lemon // boots: Steve Madden // top: H&M // necklace : House of Harlow)
Hope you had a great weekend, too!
This weekend, I ran around like a happy little chicken missing it’s head. It was a CRAZY busy weekend but it was full of lots and lots of fun stuff.
Saturday, I cohosted a baby shower at my house for a good friend. She’s due with her second baby, a little boy, in June. I was reminded how cute baby clothes are.
Saturday night, we went to church to celebrate my little brother’s first holy communion. He’s growing up so fast. tear. Afteward, I pretty much drank my weight in wine at dinner. The waiter refilled our glasses so fast that I didn’t even have a chance to tell him, “Thanks, but I’m okay.” which by the end of the night probably would have sounded like, “Taaaaank uuuu. But no (hiccup) tank you I’m gerrrrate! ” Oh well, I could have worse problems :).
Sunday, I took my mom out to lunch to get in some one-on-one time, which was super. And Sunday afternoon Jason and I eschewed the chores we had laid out for ourselves in favor of taking the pup downtown and enjoying a cold drink outside.
When, we were dating, we carved our initials into the sidewalk downtown outside the Hibernian (where I’m at above) about 6 years ago. They are still there. I was the “JW.” Looking at this now, its funny to me that the sidewalk is stained such that the W now resemebles a C. Can you tell? Or am I just crazy?
How was your weekend friends?
This weekend was another whirlwind of fun. Friday night, we checked out the free concert downtown. I couldn’t tell you who performed but they were really good (mostly covers but good covers). We got sushi takeout from a restaraunt down the street and had a little sushi picnic while we drank our icy cold budlights.
There was a wall of lights that was kool from far away.
And krazy kool up close.
Saturday, we headed out of town to help a friend ring in the big 3-0.
(Please excuse my hair as the humidity was at about 312%. Instead, focus on my giant pink ring. Also, the red eye removal only removed red from one of my eyeballs, so ignore that, too.)
This happened at the birthday party.
And so did this:
(faces blurred to protect the innocent - who are respectable people with respectable careers but who also like to party every once in a while. old is a state of mind, people.)
Sunday, we drove back after an early Mother’s Day brunch with a grandmother- and mother-in-law. We had the necessary road trip accoutrements:
And Sunday afternoon was spent at home with both a hairy dog and a hair of the dog.
Hope your weekend was full of all things super, special and sparkles!
Peace and Always Have a DD Blessings.
