The Way I Wore: A hot date to Eric Clapton

Monday night, Jason picked me up after work, we stopped by the Whole Foods buffet to pick up some dinner and some brews and headed over to Eric Clapton. He was pretty awesome in concert and my date was pretty fab, too.

The Way I Wore: First Friday

Raleigh has a knack for pulling people together. Every downtown shop, art gallery, office, and restaraunt comes alive with the buzz that is “First Friday” - an evening of socializing and merry-making dedicated to the first Friday of each month. Jason and I got home from work, swapped out our casual friday for a first friday look and headed out to be part of our community. We saw art; we drank wine; and we ate food.

It was all good.

Saturday night, Jason and I got our acts together to celebrate the birthday of one of my favorite girlfriend’s boyfriend’s (did you catch that?)  birthday We met for an afternoon of cheering on the wolfpack (who won!!!!) before the birthday boy and crew were off for an evening of more debauchery and us old fogies (me + Jason) had to call it a night.

The Way I Wore: My Uniform

Tonight I donned my typical winter uniform of tights/leggings, dress/tunic/long sweater, and boots. I met my super bestie K for sushi, wine, and girl gossip (mostly about her new man… fun!). The spandex in my pants came in especially handy for gobbling up an extra sushi roll and downing an extra glass of wine (both allowed when dining with gal pals).

The Way I Wore:

Longish, yellowish sweater: Theory

Snake print leggings: BCBG

Boots: Lucky

Necklace: House of Harlow

Diamond Earrings: Gifted

The Way I Wore: My Honey’s Birthday

I had originally planned this outfit for Valentine’s Day, but Jason and I have opted for a low key evening at home so I figured I’d wear it for his birthday dinner at the restaurant of his choosing.  He had originally decided on Hayes Barton Cafe and Dessertery but changed his mind to Vivace, a delish Italian place, at the 11th hour. We’d been here many times for brunch and lunch, but it was our first time for dinner, and the place did not disappoint. The service was impeccable, food was to die for and our bill (with drinks!) came in at under 100 bones. Win!

The Way I Wore:

Silk, cream dress: no discernible brand. I got this at a local boutique when I lived in Wrightsville Beach, NC

Blush (touchably soft) cardigan: Ryu

Burgundy Tights: Hue

Shoes: BCBGirls

Gold belt: Vintage by way of Kristin

Pearl and gold locket ring: Vintage by way of Catch 22 by way of San Francisco

Diamond earrings: Gifted

The folks at Vivace were nice enough to bring us some of their homemade tiramisu with a candle for Jason to blow out. Jason even paused long enough for me to sing him happy birthday (in a whisper) and the couple next to us offered to take our picture. I just love nice people!

Tonight, we celebrated my little sister’s birthday. She turned the ripe old age of 26. (screeeech) umm…. I remember when I turned 26 and it wasn’t that long ago. So, yeah, um… can’t hardly believe that my sister Kat He Rine* is now 26. That means only one thing: I am getting older. Correction, we are both getting older. Thus far, I am okay with this as it’s given me a great husband, a cute niece, a lovely brother-in-law, and a wonderful relationship with my parentals.
The Way I Wore:
Chevron sweater: M Missoni
Latex leggings: Romeo & Juliet Couture
Black lace-up wedges: Aldo
Gold hoop earrings: Kenneth Cole
*Her name is Katherine, but I called her Kat He Rine (sounds as written) when we were younger in order to drive her bonkers. Sisters? Good for something.

The Way I Wore: Snowed Out

Today was my little brother’s birthday (he turned 8!). Though the roads are largely untravelable (is that a word?), I luckily live only about a mile from my parents’ house, so I bundled up, put the leash on Cole and walked over to wish Joe a happy birthday.

The Way I Wore:

Striped Sweater Dress: Ya-ya

Sweater Coat: Tommy Hilfiger

Leggings: Romeo & Juliet Couture

Boots: Michael Kors

Gloves: Target

Hat: Forever 21

Scarf: The Limited

One of these things is not like the other. Can you tell what it is?

The Way I Wore: Hockey Game

Last night, Jason and I were lucky enough to score some free tickets to see the Carolina Hurricanes take on the New York Islanders. I’m not the biggest hockey fan, but I am not one to say no to free stuff and I’m also not one to miss out on seeing hockey fights in the flesh. Even better, the Canes won, 4 to 1. Holler.

Since I hadn’t been to a hockey game in ages, I had kind of forgotten what to wear to such an event (fyi, I don’t do jerseys as shirts) but this is what I came up with and I was comfortable and warm.

The Way I Wore:

Faux fur vest: The Limited

Sweater: The Limited

Jeans: Citizens of Humanity

Boots: Steve Madden

Ring: Wedding Ring

The Way I Wore: Ruffles and Lace and Legs, oh my!

With this outfit, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone a little bit. Typically, with a short dress like this I would have a pair of super duper opaque tights on, but since I paired it with a lacey cardigan, I thought I’d spice it up a bit and echo the lacey goodness on my gams. And I think I like it. Insider tip: I actually have on a pair of sheer black Spanx under my lace tights to help keep my junk in check. Crucial.

The Way I Wore:

Purple ruffle dress: Free People

Mustard yellow cardigan: Rodarte for Target

Necklace: House of Harlow

Shoes: Sam Edelman

Lace tights (worn over Spanx): Express

What do you think? Lace overload or just right?

The Way I Wore: Housewarming Party

Getting dressed for a party at your own house is an odd thing. I mean, you get dressed up a bit because people are coming over but do you really want to get too dressed up just to go nowhere? Nope. And a housewarming party is a friendly, unpretentious kind of gathering, so your outfit should be the same - friendly and unpretentious. I kept it fairly simple with boyfriend jeans and a sweater coupled with a statement necklace and sparkly shoes with a low heel. The low heel is key because as hostess I was on my feet all night - refilling drinks, taking coats, giving tours and introducing people to each other - so comfort with style was very important.

Navy Sweater: BCBG

Boyfriend Jeans: Joe’s Jeans

Orange Bubble Necklace: J. Crew

Orange Cabochon Bracelet: Banana Republic

Rose Gold Lame Shoes: Sam Edelman

My neighbor loved my shoes, my mom hated them. What do you think?
