(style) blair waldorf

Hands down, my favorite look in this season’s Gossip Girl was this hot pink shorts with patterned tights and watercolor print shirt look that Blair sported on the first day of her new internship. With warm weather just on the horizon (I mean… I think… I hope… I wish… I PRAY!), I couldn’t help but dream up a way to make the key elements of this look transition into a spring ready outfit.

BUY/DON’T BUY

ITEM: J. Crew Tilly Satin Two-Tone Platforms, $199 (on sale from $325)

NAME: Tink

QUESTION: These beautiful creatures are currently on sale at Jcrew, my two-part questions to you is;

  1. I have limited places to wear such fabulous shoes (heel), and given their price, which I know is not ridiculous, but is more than I would usually spend on shoes… But I love them to death, should I buy them?
  2. Which of these incredible colors should I choose?

ANSWER: Decisions, decisions! The life of a fashionista is full of them. And this is a toughie!  However, I think the scales tip in favor of the black. The nude is totally gorgeous in its own right, but I think you’re more likely to wear the black now and it goes well with all that fall fashion has to offer. They also lend themselves to pairing with tights, which would be much trickier with the nude color. Can’t you just see yourself in a some tweed shorts or a plaid dress paired with these puppies?

VERDICT: BUY! (in black)

(pssst… Have you own buy/don’t buy quandary? E-mail me and I’ll answer it for ya!)

Reader Style Question

Hey Julie.

I’m loving the oxford trend for fall, but so far haven’t found a pair that I really like. So for now, I’m trying to use what’s in my closet. I have a pair of classic black Bass penny loafers. How would you wear/style them?

Thanks,Colleen

First of all, I LOVE that you are working with what you’ve got. You go girl!

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with the classics as classics are classic for a reason. Classically speaking, that is.

That said, I do think that penny loafers can come off as a bit manly or school marm-ish in exection if you’re not careful. But pair them with some au currant pieces and a little bling to keep the overall look fresh and feminine, and you will be well on your way to rocking the oldies in a goodie way.

An example of what I’m talkin’ about is so:

((Top, Shorts, Thigh Highs, Necklace, Penny Loafers are your own.))

If you’re not ready to embrace the thigh high socks this season, try some cable knit tights or opaque tights in a fun color.

The Way I Wore: From the Archives

Let’s pretend for a minute that it’s not a bagillion degrees below freezing outside and that it is warm and we all have tans and the sun doesn’t set until 8 pm.  Because right now, I wish that were the case and my blog=my pretend.

Here’s what I might wear. I did wear it last summer/early fall, but it never made it to the blog for reasons I cannot quite remember (I forgot?). I suppose you could winterize it with some tights and swap out some boots or booties for the sandals. Gawd, is there anything tights can’t do?

The Way I Wore (last summer):

T-shirt: Rob & Hugo

Blazer: The Limited

Necklace: Rachel Leigh

Shorts: Joe’s Jeans

Sandals: Nine West

Well would you look at that! It looks like Jane (of I’m-only-17-but-I-get-invited-to-the-Crillon-Ball-and-get-fitted-for-Chanel-haute-couture-where-they-also-gift-me-with-free-shoes-and-my-shoe-budget-is-more-than-your-house-costs-and-there-is-a-certain-twenty-something-living-in-NC-who-is-maybe-jealous-of me-and-who-is-also-not-really-okay-with-that fame) has been reading The Daily Julie.

She might not admit it if you ask her, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the inspiration for her latest outfit came from my blog. It’s TIGHTS WITH SHORTS, people!

I’m flattered.
