ask me a question

about me

Hello there, you lucky person! Welcome to my brain. You've stumbled upon my collection of thoughts on fashion, beauty, marriage, fashion and life. Pour some (sweet) tea (vodka) and kick up your feet. I hope you enjoy poking around the site.

Who am I you ask? I'm a southern woman trying to navigate her way through life. I am married with one dog and when I have a free moment it's spent with fashion(!), family, friends, or fried food.

I'm a happy wife with a mostly sunny and slightly sarcastic outlook on life.

Headed down south to the land of the pines
And I’m thumbin’ my way into North Caroline
Starin’ up the road
Pray to God I see headlights

I made it down the coast in seventeen hours
Pickin’ me a bouquet of dogwood flowers
And I’m a hopin’ for Raleigh
I can see my baby tonight

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Runnin’ from the cold up in New England
I was born to be a fiddler in an old-time stringband
My baby plays the guitar
I pick a banjo now

Oh, the North country winters keep a gettin’ me now
Lost my money playin’ poker so I had to up and leave
But I ain’t a turnin’ back
To livin’ that old life no more

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

Walkin’ to the south out of Roanoke
I caught a trucker out of Philly
Had a nice long toke
But he’s a headed west from the Cumberland Gap
To Johnson City, Tennessee

And I gotta get a move on before the sun
I hear my baby callin’ my name
And I know that she’s the only one
And if I die in Raleigh
At least I will die free

So rock me mama like a wagon wheel
Rock me mama anyway you feel
Hey mama rock me
Rock me mama like the wind and the rain
Rock me mama like a south-bound train
Hey mama rock me

I refrained from posting today because I had planned on taking all sorts of pretty Easter pictures - my pastel outfit(s), the dogwoods and azaleas blooming in my parents front yard, all the candy that my little brother collected during his Easter egg hunt, etc. - and I would then share them with you all.
Alas, though I had my camera with me, I took nary a photo because I was having so much fun!
So, this image - the result of a google search - is what you get.
It’s funny though! And cute, right?

Legend of the Dogwood

Perhaps this is why it’s always in bloom around Easter:

At the time of the crucifixion, the dogwood had reached the size of the mighty oak tree. So strong and firm was the wood that it was chosen as the timber for Jesus’ cross.

To be used for such a cruel purpose greatly distressed the dogwood. While nailed upon it, Jesus sensed this, and in his compassion said. “Because of your pity for my suffering, never again shall the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used for a cross. Henceforth, it shall be slender, bent, and twisted, and its blossoms shall be in the form of a cross–two long and two short petals.

“In the center of the outer edge of each petal will be the print of nails. In the center of the flower, stained with blood, will be a crown of thorns so that all who see it will remember.”

My favorite is white dogwood flowers, but they also come in red and pink.

Daily Lovely  - Dogwood Charm by Helen Ficalora
Dogwoods are the North Carolina state flower (even though they are actually a tree).
Dogwoods are also one of the reasons I love spring in NC. It seems like every street you go down this time of year has dogwoods in full  bloom.
