My house
I’ve had a lot of you folks ask to see pictures of my new house. I haven’t really posted any because it’s still a work in progress in terms of things we need to get (rugs, art, etc) and things we need to do (paint!). I’m a firm believer that you should not have anything in your house that doesn’t make you happy, so I’m willing to wait for that perfect thing to tie everything together. So, instead of pictures of the house, I’m going to share with you some of my favorite things around the house.
However, I must preface this by letting you know that my favorite “thing” about the house is not something you can see. What I most enjoy about it is having a home that is truly ours (well, technically, it’s the bank’s but whatev). A home that we will eventually raise our children in. A home that has enough space for me to host 13 people on Thanksgiving. The thing I like most about our house is thinking about all of the memories that will be made in here and all of the “things” these walls will see.
Now, without further ado, a few of my favorite things:

This old map print. I love looking at it and seeing what people used to think the world looked like. I enjoy seeing where we’ve come in that school of thought and thinking about what maps will look like years from now.

This green linen couch with nailhead trim. I knew that I needed a couch with nailhead trim in my life. I got one. The linen is a nice contrast to the toughness and formality of the nailheads.

This shiny lamp. I like shiny things. This is shiny. So I like it.

My dining room chandelier. This came with the house. At first I thought it was a bit gaudy for my taste, but now I actually quite like it. It’s shaped like gold branches.

My vintage hutch thingy. I never know what to call this (hutch, cabinet, cupboard, etc), but I love this piece. It’s probably one of the most expensive things in my house, but worth every penny. It’s from Indonesia via the mid 1800’s. In my mind, it belong to a British colonist who frequently entertained the various peoples of state. It’s much more bluish/green than this picture wants you to believe.

My bird key rack. Cuteness, convenience and organization all rolled into one tweet-tastic piece. I found it on ebay for $9!

My fridge. It gives you filtered water in the door. Who knew how great this is?

My fireplace. Let’s ignore the fact that the fire still needs to hooked up (we’re opting for gas instead of real - insert sad face - because it costs waaaaay too much money to get the chimney up to code) and relish in the fact that I have a fireplace. And not to brag, but I actually have TWO fireplaces. two freaking fireplaces. I thought I was a lucky gal to have one, but nope… I have two. Can you tell I like fireplaces? The other one is in the basement aka man-cave, but I’ll save that post for another day.
