So, there was a time back in August 2011 that I talked about how I was going to redecorate my guest bathroom and told you I’d share before and after pics. Remember that? If you don’t, that’s okay because I obviously forgot to update you in a timely fashion.
I actually completed this mini home project before Thanksgiving. My motto was “work with what you got” which meant no new tub and no new tile. One day, 1960s pattern floor tile will be back in vogue right?
Anywho, here are the before pictures, though they are especially terrible “befores” because I remembered to take them after I had taken down the mirror and the shower curtain. But you can basically get the gist of the space.

lovely, no? I do have to thank the people who owned this pad just before us for upgrading the vanity to pretty wood and putting in the stone counters. But what they didn’t do is change the tub or the floor tile (lower left photo is floor tile), so this bathroom is very…. beige. I don’t necessarily dislike beige/brown, but I have this sentiment that bathrooms should not be the same color as things going in the toilet.
Like I said, I was trying to work with what I got. First step: I found this grayish/beigish ikat fabric that I bought 3 yards of and sewed a shower curtain that goes all the way to the ceiling.

I also painted the entire bathroom, including the ceiling, a greige color, though it is more gray than beige. Thank goodness. In fact, the color is Cape Hatteras Sand by Benjamin Moore (p.s. BM paints are worth every penny!), and the name of said color had a lot to do with my final choice to use it. Jason was aghast when he came by the bathroom to check on my progress and saw that I had painted the pristine white ceiling the same color as the walls, but it really makes our standard height ceiling seem much more spacious. Also, please pay no mind to that odd window near the ceiling. It looks into the master bathroom. One project at a time, people.

As you can see, I also added that surfer picture. I wanted to add a vintage poster of a volcanic explosion (get it?) but Jason vetoed that, and a girl’s gotta pick and choose her battles. We used to have these surfer dudes hanging out in our living room when we lived in Wrightsville Beach, but they work great hanging ten in here and I think having such a large piece of art is an unexpected touch for a bathroom. Oh, and a big fluffy rug adds a super luxe touch when stepping out of the shower. Target, natch.
I also added this fun print from etsy. I give this little man a high five every morning. (handtowel is from the Targ)

And I put out some accessories – a sandalwood scented candle to cover stinky poo, and a fat lady lounging on the couch because why not. Oh, here you can also see that I replaced the outlet cover (and switch plate above), from icky white plastic to this metal stuff, which I think is a crucial update. The devil is in the details!

I also added a colorful tray to give the illusion that my crap is actually organized. Even though this is technically the guest bath, it’s where I get ready every morning. Please note that extra toilet paper in my house currently, and always will, stand without toilet paper covers.

So that’s it. What do you think? Stupid? Or would you want read a magazine on the toilet in here?
