The Style Swap
is tonight. Hope to see you Raleigh bitches there.
GSAYW
Tuesday evening I watched the Real Housewives of NYC and it reminded me of my 8th grade dance. You see, Simon and Alex (aka Silex) remodeled their home in Brooklyn in shades of red and black.
When I was in 8th grade, I desperately wanted a beautiful dress that I had seen at Dillard’s to wear to my 8th grade dance. It was the most divine combination of scarlet poly/cotton blend and black...
OMG (quick breaths) OMG (quick breaths)
My boss is on vacation and go figure that when she leaves for a little R&R, shizzle hits the fan-izzle.
Must remember:
1. To breathe - I am in control
2. That stressed spelled backwards is desserts
3. To call Jason to pick up wine (lots of it) on the way home
4. That I will do a kick-ass job of handling these mini-crisis so that when my boss returns she realizes how invaluable I am and...
Daily Lovely - Bustown Modern Vintage →
I admit that I usually use etsy for all my online vintage clothing perusing. However, after stumbling across this lovely lace dress last week, I have been smitten with Bustown Modern’s ebay store.
They have a well edited selection of vintage clothing - think Christian Dior blazer currently at $10.50, new looking ’60s and ’70s dresses, ’80s YSL pumps - and a smattering of...
Do you live in Raleigh? Do like clothes? Do you have no plans on Thursday night from 7 to 9?
If you answered yes to all of the above, make plans to come to Style Swap:Raleigh at White Collar Crime. Tickets are $40 in advance or $50 at the door. Pricey? Perhaps. But where else can you get designer clothes for that cheap? You bring 3 designer/vintage items that you no longer wear and swap them...

Weekend in Review: Friday night, Cole interuppted my Wii bowling winning streak (per usual) to have us stop and play with him. We happily obliged and I got it on tape, even though Jason thought I was just taking a picture. Cole has many a trick up his sleeve and there is not much he won’t do for a treat or a toy.

A brief History of Raleigh, NC
Since I know you are dying to win at some random trivia game:
The city was conceived in 1792, and was named at birth Wake Crossroads. Its original mission was to serve as a place for those traveling north to south or vice versa to stop for a rest and perhaps a drink or two (this was way before .08 became the legal limit). Long about this same time, the North Carolina General Assembly decided the...
Daily Joy
Thank you universe for bringing a weekend of beautiful weather and for giving me a boss that tells me I should go home early and enjoy the beautiful day (even if she explained that I should enjoy a couple hours off now since I will likely be exceptionally busy next week)
Take Five Friday: Fashion Trends
Today’s Take Five Friday are five fashion trends that I wish would go away, described in five words:
1. Bubble hems on anything: You look like an egg. 2. Gladiator sandals: Only good on toothpick legs.
3. Crop tops: Not in 1996, not now.
4. Leggings as pants: Only if you’re working out.
5. Little dogs in purses: I’m secretly jealous of you.
Universe,
Are you trying to tell me something?
Just the other day I wrote about my love for big, beautiful earrings. And today, I get my WhoWhatWear email and it’s about - you guessed it - big earrings!
Does this mean I need a new job in trend forecasting? Should I go buy more earrings?
Waiting for another sign before I quit my job or spend more money,
JC
Pink and Orange, Orange and Pink
One of my favorite color combos to sport in the summer is hot pink and bright orange. It’s an unexpected pairing that gives a fresh, cheerful burst of color.
An easy way to wear this color combo is to wear a dress that has these two flashy, sassy colors:
Like this Tibi dress:
Or this Alice and Olivia Cocktail dress:
Or this Henrik Vibskov dress:
If a whole out fit of pink and...
Last Night - Foiled
Jason opted not to go play poker at the last minute, so my plans for an evening of girly self-indulgence were quickly squashed. However, after my cries to please pleeeeeaase watch the Real Housewives of NYC went unanswered, Jason satiated me by taking me out for a drink and some dinner.
En route to dinner, I kept hearing all these strange farting noise. Turns out, my husband, the 30 year old...
Merlefest - Wilkesboro, NC →
I love Merlefest, and I credit Jason for introducing me to the unique culture that is bluegrass.
Jason and I went to this celebration of the late Merle Watson a couple years ago and unfortunately when it has come around these past two years, we have had other obligations that have kept us away. I think my highlight from a couple years ago is when Nickel Creek covered Britney Spears’ Toxic....
Daily Joy
What is today’s joy (tap, tap go my fingers)? What is today’s joy (tap, tap, tap)?
I haven’t posted one in a bit because I really haven’t sat down to think of that one special thing that makes me most happy today.
Hmmmm…Oh! I know! I sent two little packages in the mail to two certain someones.
Another thing that I am looking forward to is that Jason is playing...
Library Adventures
I did it!
During lunch today, I went to the library and got my library card. You all had so many great suggestions and I looked up each and every one of them. Unfortunately, most of the books were either checked out or on hold for someone else (The Book Thief, Water for Elephants), not available at the branch I went to (Cloud Street, Middlesex), or I just wrote down the author’s name wrong...
GSAYW - People sleep laying down
When I was eight years old, one of my favorite shows was Mr. Ed. I loved Mr. Ed and wished that I had a talking horse just like him. In fact, I thought Mr. Ed was so great that I wanted to be just like him. I thought, if Mr. Ed can sleep standing up, why can’t I? So, I set out to do just that.
Night 1: I stood in the middle of my room trying to fall asleep. After 15 minutes, it...
Costco Update
Costco was everything that I had hoped it would be - except, they had no avocados. They did however have an 18 pack of Larabars for $15.69! I had heard so many good things about these bars that I bought a pack containing Cherry Pie, Cashew Cookie, and Apple Pie. I’ve already eaten a cherry pie one and I must say it’s delish!
I wound up getting the berry smoothie from the food area....
Daily Joy
I’m heading to Costco after work. I seriously love that place. I can spend hours just twirling around the aisles of supersized pickle jars, outdoor furniture, electronics, and huge cakes. It’s like toyland for grown-ups.
In fact, another reason I’m excited about my excursion to the land of large is because I have always wanted to eat at the little food area they have, but Jason...
