Tip #1 from Time Saving Country Cookbook
As I peruse through my new cookbook, I’ll share with you some gems from the writers. I am going to enjoy more than just the recipes in this book! Tip #1: Your Turn to Have Club? When busy country women entertain club members or other groups of friends at luncheon, they depend on color in foods to set the tone.  “If the food is pretty and cheerful to look at,” one...

Catch 22 →
Ooooh, how exciting! and Joie you are a lovely model! I am so glad that Catch 22 is now available to the masses online. Go Heather. A little known fact about me is that in my spare time I make jewelry under the pseudonym, Liza C. Designs, and Heather is my #1 favorite fashionista and boutique owner to supply to.  Here are a couple designs that you can now buy if you’re not in the Raleigh...

Raleigh, NC is #1 for Businesses and Careers →
I do love my little hometown of Raleigh, NC. It’s a big city with a small city feel. But, when I see Raleigh topping the #1 lists like this, it makes me nervous because can Raleigh keep up with it’s awesomeness if everyone knows about it? You betcha she can!

“I just love looking at you each morning to see what you are wearing. You have the best outfits.” -my female coworker made me blush! Nice to know someone around here appreciates my efforts to look stylish in “work” clothes.

Things that are good because I was born
I would just like to take a moment to reflect on the positive things I have added to the world since the day of my birth, 27 years ago today: 1. Jason has a wife and doesn’t have to subsist on spaghetti o’s and pillsbury dough products inside a cardboard roll. 2. My brothers and sister all have the coolest big sister (being the oldest of 4 is not always easy, my friends) 3. My...

I AM getting older
In case there was any doubt, right before our 3-d IMAX experience of Monsters vs. Aliens started, I developed a painful crick in my neck. It’s so bad that I can’t even turn my head to the right even the slightest bit without pain shooting through my neck.  27 has got to be better than this! On a positive note, 3-d movies are super duper cool. If you haven’t been to an IMAX...

Birthday Weekend, Go!
I’m leaving work early today to get my birthday celebration underway.  My real birthday is Sunday, but every adult knows it takes more than one day to celebrate getting older. I believe that the length and/or intensity of the birthday celebration is in direct correlation to the number of years old you are.  So, here’s this weekend’s celebration schedule: Friday: 1. Leave work...

NCAA ponderings
You know what? I don’t like UNC. And honestly, it’s not because I went to NCSU. It’s not that I don’t like them just because I’m supposed to dislike them. Let’s just say that my feelings toward UNC stem from an incident involving trophies, being chased through the UNC campus, 100 hours of community service, and an apology letter to the UNC baseball team. Oh...

Things I want for my children
Within the next three years, there is an almost 100% chance that Husband and I will be expanding our family.  Raising children scares the bejesus out of me, but I still look forward to that day.  I have no idea what kind of mother I will be, but I do know that there are several traits I will work hard at to instill in future Cook-lings: 1.  Be nice to everyone no matter what their skin color,...

It’s warm and rainy today in good ole Raleigh. Rainy means I can bust out my new umbrella and warm means that it’s not cold. And when it’s not cold, that is good.

So, after I left the DMV, I saw one of my favorite fast food places, Cookout, across the street.  I ordered one my favorite sandwiches that they have - a club style (bacon, cheese, tomato, and lettuce) chargrilled chicken breast - and onion rings. The lady gives me my order, smiles very big, looks at me, and says “Here ya go. Hot and Fresh, just for you.” Now that’s service...

My experience at the NC DMV was much more pleasant than I thought. I was in an out in 15 minutes. However, I did not get to renew my registration because apparently there is a tax stop on my car. Who knew? Obviously, not me. Anyways, the nice DMV lady gave me a phone number where I could call and pay the taxes over the phone.  So, I call the number and apparently my tax stop is in a different...

I'm asking...
Jason and I are invited to a 6:30 wedding this summer. Now, I know 6 o’clock is fancy, fancy, but does 6:30 fall into this category as well?  The invitation did not have us select our entree, which made me wonder if it’s maybe more of a cocktail party reception…. but then again the reception is at a posh country club. Anyone have appropriate dress code suggestions?

During my lunch break I’m headed to the DMV.  Dreading this has already put a huge damper on my day.  Going to the DMV is right up there with my aversion for visiting the dentist. However, last week, I got pulled over for expired tags on my car. (“Whaaaa, officer? My tags are expired???) Since I put about as much effort into keeping tabs on my car as I do in keeping tabs on what...

Yahtze!
Jason and I play Yahtze. Every couple should have something they like to do together, just the two of you, and for us, right now, we love to play Yahtze. If you have never played Yahtze, it’s really simple and all it involves is rolling 5 dice and trying to get different combinations of numbers. All you do, is randomly roll dice and the random combinations appear. It takes virtually...

Weekend in Review
This weekend was full of: - Sleeping in with Husband - Basketball watching and laughs with Girlfriends - Cooking Sunday dinner for 6 - Finally finishing Breaking Dawn I must say that I was a little disappointed with Breaking Dawn. I found Bella to be so whiny throughout the whole book, I just wanted to smack her and tell her to shush her mouth and get on with it. Next, I’ve got two books...
