(random) a few survey things

***WARNING: Long, texty post ahead***

There were a few themes that arose from the survey that I wanted to take a moment to address. Bear in mind, these are overall, generalized themes. For every person who likes a recipe/outfit/story post, there is another person who wants to see more/less of a recipe/outfit/story post. But I did get some really great takeaways thanks to your feedback, so I wanted to share them with you and explain how I plan to address them in the future. If you have any more thoughts on anything I’ve written below, please leave a comment. Comments are my favorite.

Outfit posts: Some people love them and some people hate them. I love them, so they will stay. I really like getting dressed and while I realize my style may not be for everyone (nor do I claim to be a style icon or fashionista), clothes are something I love. They don’t define who I am, but silly as it sounds, they bring me a lot of joy. So, the outfit posts will stay, though they won’t be quite as frequent once this 30×30 (read: 22×22) challenge is over. I’m really just trying to get through my outfits to get on with the rest of my closet. That said, I realize I sometimes slap up an outfit post when the picture quality is sub par or the description could be better. I’ll try to improve upon that. I guess I just feel a lot of self-imposed pressure to post every day. Blogging is not my full time job, so when I’m taking outfit pictures or trying to create a post, it’s in my free time, and honestly, sometimes I’d rather connect with my real life then. But I still want to get a post up so I might not give it my all. Plus, half the time Jason takes my pictures and half the time I use a timer and a tripod, and with the latter, I’m still learning. Practice makes perfect! Anywho, I guess what I’m trying to say is that moving forward I’m going to try to go for quality over quantity when it comes to visually-heavy posts.

A few people requested I post more serious stuff. I’m sure everyone has a different perspective on what “serious stuff” is,  and from my standpoint, there is indeed a lot of serious stuff in my life. I have financial woes, family drama, fat days, arguments with my husband, and thoughts on politics and religion, just like everyone else. (Gosh, I guess serious stuff also sounds like bad/controversial stuff. Can the good stuff be serious, too? There’s your deep thought for the day.) I like for my blog to be a place where I can focus on the good things. 99% of the time I actively try to keep the negative stuff off my blog because I’d rather deal with it in it’s own way on my own time, not yours. I hope that doesn’t make it seem like a live a charmed or unrealistic life because I don’t. I just live how I know and try to be the best contributor to society that I can be. Besides, it’s so much more fun to focus on the positive things. Life is short, dammit.

I am going to try and throw in some more home decor and recipe posts. I loooove cooking but like I said I have a full time job, so most of the time I’m cooking at 7:00 at night and then just want to eat and not worry about photographing my food. I just want it to get in mah belly! Plus sometimes, my food tastes rull good but doesn’t look rull pretty. I know you can relate. That said, I think I could step it up on the weekends, which is when I do most of my “fun” cooking anyways since I’ve got more time to devote to it. And as far as home decor. ooph. Home decor is something I love reading and learning about, but when it comes to decorating my own house, I get paralyzed by indecision. There are a handful of things in my house that I absolutely love and are just the way I want them, so I’ll post that soon. But overall everything is still a work in progress. Oh, I am planning on sewing some curtains this weekend (it only took me 5 months to pick out a fabric!) so I’ll be sure to share those next week.

Alrighty, well I think that about covers some of the major themes of my survey. I want you to know that I really appreciate everyone who took a few minutes to take the survey and give me your feedback – good and bad. And for the people who love my blog and didn’t have anything bad to say, I appreciate your feedback most. ha!

Thanks for your feedback, Julie! (I love to see/read what bloggers think of their readers’ feedback after a survey, but not all do, so thanks!!) And thank you for working so hard on this blog. It’s a pleasure to read, and I definitely understand the desire to post every day (despite my multiple failures at this goal) and am always beyond impressed at what you’re able to put out, day after day, ESPECIALLY with a full-time job. So, thank you. :)

I can’t wait to see what you do! I hope most people were nice in the survey…I can’t imagine why people would specifically post mean things, so I hope you didn’t get anything too negative. I totally understand the whole thing about posting an outfit photo of subpar quality or with a less than stellar description; I’m guilty of it myself due to the self-imposed posting schedule!

Thanks, Jeanna! Most people were nice. Even the criticisms were constructive, so I definitely understand where people are coming from.

Don’t stop posting outfits! They don’t all have to be Vogue-quality fashion shoots. The entire point of it is to share the creative combinations you’ve pulled together, which is still achieved regardless of the amount of editing, photo quality, etc. I really enjoy them!! Thanks!

Hi Julie! i check your blog every morning when I get into work — and I am not a blog follower at all. Yours is the only one I visit, actually! I stumbled upon it when I was looking for photos of tights with shorts and I have been visiting every day since! Thank you for all of your posts, tho I love the fashion the most :) You seem fabulous and like a very nice person. Keep up the great work!
