***WARNING: Long, texty post ahead***
There were a few themes that arose from the survey that I wanted to take a moment to address. Bear in mind, these are overall, generalized themes. For every person who likes a recipe/outfit/story post, there is another person who wants to see more/less of a recipe/outfit/story post. But I did get some really great takeaways thanks to your feedback, so I wanted to share them with you and explain how I plan to address them in the future. If you have any more thoughts on anything I’ve written below, please leave a comment. Comments are my favorite.
Outfit posts: Some people love them and some people hate them. I love them, so they will stay. I really like getting dressed and while I realize my style may not be for everyone (nor do I claim to be a style icon or fashionista), clothes are something I love. They don’t define who I am, but silly as it sounds, they bring me a lot of joy. So, the outfit posts will stay, though they won’t be quite as frequent once this 30×30 (read: 22×22) challenge is over. I’m really just trying to get through my outfits to get on with the rest of my closet. That said, I realize I sometimes slap up an outfit post when the picture quality is sub par or the description could be better. I’ll try to improve upon that. I guess I just feel a lot of self-imposed pressure to post every day. Blogging is not my full time job, so when I’m taking outfit pictures or trying to create a post, it’s in my free time, and honestly, sometimes I’d rather connect with my real life then. But I still want to get a post up so I might not give it my all. Plus, half the time Jason takes my pictures and half the time I use a timer and a tripod, and with the latter, I’m still learning. Practice makes perfect! Anywho, I guess what I’m trying to say is that moving forward I’m going to try to go for quality over quantity when it comes to visually-heavy posts.
A few people requested I post more serious stuff. I’m sure everyone has a different perspective on what “serious stuff” is, and from my standpoint, there is indeed a lot of serious stuff in my life. I have financial woes, family drama, fat days, arguments with my husband, and thoughts on politics and religion, just like everyone else. (Gosh, I guess serious stuff also sounds like bad/controversial stuff. Can the good stuff be serious, too? There’s your deep thought for the day.) I like for my blog to be a place where I can focus on the good things. 99% of the time I actively try to keep the negative stuff off my blog because I’d rather deal with it in it’s own way on my own time, not yours. I hope that doesn’t make it seem like a live a charmed or unrealistic life because I don’t. I just live how I know and try to be the best contributor to society that I can be. Besides, it’s so much more fun to focus on the positive things. Life is short, dammit.
I am going to try and throw in some more home decor and recipe posts. I loooove cooking but like I said I have a full time job, so most of the time I’m cooking at 7:00 at night and then just want to eat and not worry about photographing my food. I just want it to get in mah belly! Plus sometimes, my food tastes rull good but doesn’t look rull pretty. I know you can relate. That said, I think I could step it up on the weekends, which is when I do most of my “fun” cooking anyways since I’ve got more time to devote to it. And as far as home decor. ooph. Home decor is something I love reading and learning about, but when it comes to decorating my own house, I get paralyzed by indecision. There are a handful of things in my house that I absolutely love and are just the way I want them, so I’ll post that soon. But overall everything is still a work in progress. Oh, I am planning on sewing some curtains this weekend (it only took me 5 months to pick out a fabric!) so I’ll be sure to share those next week.
Alrighty, well I think that about covers some of the major themes of my survey. I want you to know that I really appreciate everyone who took a few minutes to take the survey and give me your feedback – good and bad. And for the people who love my blog and didn’t have anything bad to say, I appreciate your feedback most. ha!
